It
is to determine chemically induced changes,
following short
and long term
exposure. In acute studies dose response and
clinical signs are studied which suggests toxicity
to the target organs, long term studies are
determines target organs to carcinogenic potential
of the chemical. Acute exposure involves 4 – 6
hrs exposure while repeated studies involve
14, 28 or 90 days exposure.
The goal of the test is to study irritation
of the respiratory tract, behavioral changes,
pathological changes to vital organs / tissues,
immune system responses, pulmonary function
alteration, metabolic disturbance and carcinogenicity.
